I’d been helping my friend try and plan a surprise 50th birthday trip for her hubby. One sunny, Saturday afternoon right before New Years, the stars aligned and in less than a few hours, she not only decided to surprise him that night, but to take along ourselves and another couple and leave in 36 hours!!

I quickly jumped right into my element and planned all the important things. My hubby helped out and booked transportation, from Happy Shuttle Cancun, from the airport to the ferry, and back. We found a sweet VRBO right on the ocean, near North Beach.

We caught an early flight out Monday morning, we had to fly Frontier there and United home. Being last minute, only the business select was available on Southwest. Happy Shuttle picked us up nice and quick and took us to the ferry. We arrived at the perfect time, getting right on board and enjoying the sunshine on the ride over to Isla Mujeres.

Since 4 of us had just recovered from COVID, we were looking forward to a relaxing time on the beach, playing games and eating some good tacos! Our favorite was a brand new taco cart called Taco’n Madre. My mouth is watering just typing this!

We found a nice place to get one hour massages right on North Beach, we got them down to $30 each for the 6 of us. They started at $40 so we were happy with that.

One of the fun things about Isla Mujeres is renting a golf cart to explore the island. We found one that sat 6 and drove down to see Punta Sur. It’s a lovely spot for a walk. Another day we got a snorkel tour to take us out to some good spots. We even saw some of MUSA, although it’d be better scuba diving for sure.

The weather was perfect and after 5 days, we reluctantly left for home. I think I can safely say we were all already looking forward to a trip back someday.
