After a full 24 hours on Vancouver Island, we arrived back at the Tsawassen Ferry port about 4:30pm. We were all tired so we chose one stop on the way to our Airbnb. Queen Elizabeth Park. I was again in awe of the fall color. Even in the fog and rain, the trees and the views were just glorious.
We walked around, enjoying the views, then drove to Burnaby, where the Airbnb we rented was.
We ate a delicious dinner at Dinesty Dumpling House and went to bed early.
The next morning, I thought we should start our adventures at the furthest point on our map, that way, if we were running out of time to check every item off our list, it’d be the things closest to us left. Grouse Mountain Sky Ride was our first stop of the day. A little pricey, but hey, it’s what you have to do, right? Most of the activities were closed, it’s off season here, so we rode up, walked around, saw the bears, and took the sky ride back down.
Capilano Suspension Bridge was just down the road from where you take the Grouse Mountain Skyride, so that was our next stop. This was another spot that lots of people say is too pricey but honestly, we LOVED it.
This was probably one of my favorite stops. Not only is there the big suspension bridge. You can walk on suspension bridges up in the tree tops, and enjoy the cliff walk. they have lights around so you almost expect to see fairies.
Lighthouse Park looked like it’d be a cool view point so we parked there and walked down to the Point Atkinson Lighthouse. If you go out on the rocks there’s a nice view of the Lighthouse, and of Vancouver.
We drove along the coast heading back to Vancouver, and stopped at various points enjoying the view of Lions Gate Bridge. Ambleside Park was a great stopping point. Having walked about 7 miles, we went back to our apartment with some delicious take out from Crystal Mall. They’ve got an awesome Asian food court there. We enjoyed the sunset from the apartment while we ate dinner.
The next morning we enjoyed a foggy walk atop Burnaby Mtn Reserve. Kushiro Park is a cool spot with totem poles from their sister city, Kushiro, in Japan.
Continuing the totem pole theme, we drove over to Stanley Park where we enjoyed the totem poles there. We drove around the sea wall enjoying the views, statues and even Brockton Point Lighthouse.
We even wove our way around to the other side to check out Inukshuk.
By now we were hungry, so we head to Granville Island Public Market. There’s no shortage of deliciousness there, we enjoyed a Croque Monsiere – a fabulous french sandwich baked in cheese, a German brat, some pickle samples, bought some garlic peanuts, and a tasty lemon donut. YUM!
Gastown was a cool place with lots of souvenir shops and an old steam clock. We stood with the crowd to hear it. You can hear the steam chimes every quarter hour.
We wanted to check out Olympic Village so we drove that way to see what there was. It’s cool to see The Bird statues and the Science Center dome, but there really isn’t much there. We learned about the Richmond Olympic Experience too late in the day, so we’ll have to check that out next time we’re in Vancouver.
It really was a fantastic 4 days in Vancouver. The fall color the proverbial cherry on top. Thanks for a great trip Canada!
