We were going to meet our friends at our timeshare in Playa Del Carmen a day later than originally planned, so we thought we’d spend the night on Isla Mujeres and check it out.
We figured out that it was cheaper to rent the car at the airport and pay to park at the ferry, rather than taxi or shuttle to the ferry port, and or ferry the car to Isla Mujeres.
Hertz is now our favorite rental car company. We’ve tried Fox and Mex and they are both terrible. Hertz has now multiple times provided a great rate and great service. The returns counter was a little busy when we were flying home, but they brought in two mini vans to bring people to the airport.
We walked the streets once we arrived, thinking we’d find a cheaper golf cart rental further inland, but ended up at Joaquin rental.
After our noisy stay on Mykonos, we opted to stay on the south part of the island, further from the tourist spots. It was a lovely, quiet place. Hotel La Joya even offers breakfast on your patio.
Even with the pouring rain, we enjoyed driving the golf cart to the Punta Sur, and up to the northern part of the island. We stopped various places, the Turtle Sanctuary which was ok for only $3, and grabbed some tacos at the Soggy Peso.
We had heard about Beachin’ Burrito Co. so we stopped in for a burrito and shared it at the beach.
We found a sweet massage place near the beach too, $20 for an awesome massage.
On a side note, we picked up some hitchhikers and ended up spending the evening together. They said they love their hotel, and have been multiple times. So I figured I’d share it here for you. Hotel Xbulu-Ha.
Our time was super short, and rainy, but I think we’ll be back to this tranquil little spot for sure.
