We flew back to Athens from Santorini, rented a car and started our two days of driving to the Halkidiki region. First stop was some gyro at Athina Souvlaki. We mainly chose it because it was near the Acropolis. The had just opened so we had to wait, but it was worth it, a delicious fuel up before the walk to the Acropolis.

After we filled up we walked over to get our tickets. There seemed to be some confusion and we stood in line for about 10 minutes before I finally found the online site to buy tickets. Don’t wait in line, it’s not necessary. We were only in the sun, standing in line, for 10 minutes before I figured out the site, others were there about 30 minutes. Attica = Athens when you’re choosing where on the site.

When we went, it was a hot day. I wore a hat and we made sure to bring in water. I wore flip flops but be warned, the marble is slick and I did slip once.

It was quite crowded but still a beautiful site to see. We walked around the Acropolis, saw the Parthenon and then walked back down.

From here we drove to Corinth, cuz, why not? It only added an hour to our trip so thought that was worth it. We’d heard there wasn’t much there, and I’d agree. We’ve been to Israel, and Rome and so have seen some of the more impressive Roman sites. It’s cool to say we’ve been, but it wouldn’t be a place I need to return to.

One thing we really did enjoy was the Corinth Canal. The crystal blue water makes it even more glorious to behold. We just parked near by and walked over and back, we didn’t take a boat ride, we wanted to get to Meteora before too late.

Driving to Meteora we passed through Patras, the Rio-Antirrio Bridge was an unexpected site. Such a beautiful bridge. The longest cable suspension bridge in Europe.
