For some reason, Greece hadn’t made it into any final itinerary for us. So this year, we decided to make it happen. The hubs had taken on a position with a remodel company making it more difficult for us to travel, so when the position ended, we knew it was our time to go.

We took advantage of a layover, extending it to spend a couple days with family in Germany. Then spent 30 hours in Cairo to check the Giza Pyramids off our list. Then onto Greece for a week! Now I know, one week in ONE country? Unheard of for us! Well, don’t you worry, the longest we spend in one spot was two nights, and we packed a whole lot of Greece into one week.

Trying to decide which islands to visit was ridiculous. There is so much to read out there to help you determine which island is right for you. I read countless blogs, looked at top 10 lists, and images to make my choice. I didn’t like that Mykonos was known as the party island, but I did love the windmills and an area known as Little Venice.

The place we rented for our one night stay was adorable, but there was was loud party music until about 5am. That part was a bummer But, I was warned, right? We stayed at Alana Pension, the location was fantastic. Just outside the little walkway was the windmills to the left and Little Venice to the right. This area also happens to be right where everyone comes to watch the sunset. Absolutely gorgeous.

We absolutely enjoyed getting lost here, walking wherever the sidewalk took us. And even found a jeweler to make me a blue sapphire princess cut ring, like I’d lost so many years ago.

We enjoyed a cold drink at one of the little restaurants in Little Venice, listening to the waves and killing time before our ferry came. When you’re in Greece, beware of two things. One, you cannot flush toilet paper. Get over it, it’s not the end of the world. Two, things are crazy expensive. This isn’t the spot to take your value vacation. It’s an island, in GREECE, plan on spending money, it’s part of the experience. And again, it’s not the end of the world.

We flew in to Mykonos, and opted to take the ferry to Santorini, so we could maximize our time, but still get the ferry experience. One thing I’d mention here, what looks like the port, is the old port, and the new port, where you’ll actually catch your ferry, it a bit farther. I’d highly recommend a taxi unless you have 45min or more to walk to the ferry.
