For one more chance at seeing the Northern Lights, we booked a night in Tromso. It was a REAL quick stop. We weren’t even there 24 hours. But the hours we had certainly were magical.
We rented a car from rentalcars.com, from Budget, and it was perfect. Weather had come in and it was snowing as we drove to our lodging. Yggdrasiltunet Gardshotell. WOW is all I can say. We absolutely LOVED our stay here. Our flight had been delayed and it took a bit to get there in the snow. But they still set up the sauna for us to use. What an amazing experience.
You could even see the glow of the northern lights just behind the hills. We rolled in the snow to cool off and ran back into the sauna, so refreshing.
That night my daughter and I sat in bed staring out the bedroom window at the Northern Lights. We knew it was our last opportunity to see them and could hardly go to sleep. It was amazing.
The time of year meant that it was dark most of our stay, with a small period of just barely light in the morning. The snow really gives Norway an ethereal feel. The next morning we got up early to be sure we had enough time to get to the airport in the snow. We stopped at Kaffebonna for skolebrod. We first had School Bread at Epcot and were thrilled to try the real thing. SO DELISH!
We boarded our plane in the snow and had to sit on the runway for a bit, but we finally left for Bergen.
