On her way to serve in Sudan for three months, we joined Lucy, our second oldest daughter, to Ireland, and then Germany. After our trip we flew home and she flew on to Sudan.
From Ireland and my niece Tarah, Lucy, John & I flew to Berlin where we were all set with our city passes to spend 3 days seeing as much as we could. It was a beautiful city. Different from what I expected, in that everything was destroyed in WWII so while things were rebuilt as they were before, they’re new. In some of the buildings, you can see how they used old stones with the new to rebuild.
ne of my favorite things was amplemann. He’s the crosswalk guy that has become a cult classic. You can find him when visiting east Germany. They have socks, and towels, and magnets and earrings. We got it all!
Checkpoint Charlie was an amazing museum where you could read about many of the daring and clever escapes. From Berlin, we drove to spend time with John’s sister Anna and family.
